Description and application
S.A.I.C.I. produces a double-passage desander series designed specifically to treat the bentonite mud used in drilling and excavation. The mud is treated and washed by separating out the solid contaminants: fine sand, clay, silt and organic matter.
The first stage — roughing — takes place on the steel screen, which separates out anything over 8 mm. The mud is then drawn by the pump to the larger-diameter hydrocyclones, where every particle over 50 microns is separated.
From there a second pump sends it to a set of smaller-diameter cyclones for the second stage. A double-passage desander separates down to a cut point of d50 = 30 microns. The machine can be modified in order to work also with one passage as a standard desander.
